Application to Join
We currently have Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer Sections and do our best to provide places for all young people wishing to join.
We accept new members at the start of the school year in September and after the Spring Half-Term.
Unfortunately, however, we only have places for about 12 new members each 6 months. Most places in Cubs and Scouts are taken by young members moving up from the younger sections so we often only have places for young people wishing to join Beavers when they are 6.
We accept applications for your people once they are 3. Irrespective of age all young people applying to join are placed on our waiting list. On 1 December and 1 June we calculate how many vacancies we will have at the following 1 March and 1 September respectively and we then invite young people of the appropriate age to enrol to fill those vacancies.
- Beavers (age 6 – 7) – Young people can join our waiting list as soon as they are 3, and we will then invite them to join at the start of the school year or the spring half term following their 6th birthday.
- Cubs (age 8 – 9) – All vacancies in our two Cub Packs (which meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 18:00 – 19:15) are usually taken by Beavers moving up to Cubs on reaching their 8th birthday. We do sometimes have occasional vacancies and these are allocated to young people on our waiting list.
- Scouts (age 10 – 13) – We currently have two Scout Troops which meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 19:30 to 21:00. All vacancies in our the Scout Troops are usually taken by Cubs moving up to Scouts on reaching their 10th birthday. We do sometimes have occasional vacancies and these are allocated to young people on our waiting list.
- Explorers (age 14 – 17) – Our affiliated Wildfire Explorer Scout Unit meets on Wednesday evenings from 19:30 to 21:00 and provides an opportunity for young people to join us as Beavers at age 6 and continue scouting through to becoming adult Leaders when they reach 18. There are usually vacancies for young people to join direct once they are 14.
Please also note that, in order for our volunteer Leaders to process applications, the deadline for applications to join in September is 1 June, and the deadline to join at the spring half term is 1 December.
